Use cases · Rebar and concrete takeoff
Rebar and concrete takeoff, read from the structural drawings.
detumble reads the structural set in AutoCAD DWG or DXF, including the bar schedules, and measures a material take-off per element: concrete, formwork, excavation and reinforcement steel. Each bar set carries the sheet and the schedule row it came from, and nothing is final until an engineer accepts it.
Who it is for
- Estimators pricing the concrete and steel packages of a tender
- Quantity surveyors checking a steel tonnage before they sign
- Structural engineers checking reinforcement against the schedules
The steps
- 01
Read the set and its schedules
Sheets, layers, levels, grids and notes are read and checked against the drawing. Bar schedules are read too, including tables drawn as blocks or embedded as objects.

- 02
Measure every element
Footings, columns, beams, slabs and walls are placed from the confirmed reading and measured by repeatable arithmetic: concrete, formwork and steel per element. Ten checks grade the model before you see it.

- 03
Accept each line
Review every quantity against its evidence and accept, correct or reject it. The approved MTO exports to an Excel workbook.
What you get
- Material take-off workbook (Excel): concrete, formwork, excavation and steel per element, with totals
- Bar sets, each traceable to the sheet and schedule row it came from
- Bar schedules read from the drawings, including tables drawn as blocks
- A query register for every conflict the drawings leave open
The proof
- Bar sets traced to their schedule row
- every one
- Evidence per quantity
- sheet, row, note
- Final without your acceptance
- nothing
Every figure names its scope; none is a promise for every drawing set.
Questions
- How accurate is the rebar takeoff?
- It is a draft until an engineer accepts it, and we publish no accuracy figure. Each bar set links to the schedule row it came from and each quantity to its sheet, so a surveyor checks it line by line at the review gate, as they would a junior's take-off, rather than taking a tonnage on trust.
- Does it produce a bar bending schedule?
- It reads the bar schedules on your drawings and turns them into bar sets in the take-off, each traced to its schedule row. A fabrication bar bending schedule in shape-code format is not an output today.
- Can it work from PDF drawings?
- Not for a take-off today. detumble reads AutoCAD DWG and DXF sets, or a zip of either; PDF sets are on the roadmap.
- What does it cost?
- Plans start at $199/mo per estimator. Every paid run is quoted before it spends a credit and runs only when you approve; you pay only for the work a run really did.
